I’m pretty sick of all the posts on like fuckyeahtattoos with really poorly made tattoos that get like 3000 reblogs because it has a cute story behind it. It may work online but not in the real world, which however sad it may be is where we live.
Seemingly right now , people ignore how each tattoo should actually look good and just focus on tattoos as a wider concept, as a lifestyle choice or a way of expressing what type of person you are.
Hey, I’m a girl with tattoos. Nevermind they’re complete shit and cost me nothing, at least I’m tattooed right?
Or my dog died in cancer and I absolutely need to express this with a lotus flower on my butt because they stand for rebirth, I’ll just stroll down to the closest shop and get one by whoever is available at the moment.
I just wish people would look at their tattoos individually, as pieces of art, however pompous that may sound. Don’t choose the tattooer out of convenience but by thinking “who could best visually capture what I want?”, actually look through their portpholios, and don’t just settle.
Sure if you want a swallow because it represents something super deep, go right ahead, but remember that people who see you walking down the street won’t know the back-story, they’ll just see a shoddy tattoo if you went to the wrong guy/girl.
THIS.
